The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, has called on Directors and Heads of Departments to demonstrate leadership anchored on discipline, accountability, and compassion.

Mr. Enitan made the call during a High-Level Management Meeting held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to integrity and responsible governance.

He emphasised that effective leadership must be reflected in conduct and empathy, describing leadership by example as the foundation of a disciplined and efficient civil service. “What you do, they watch; what you don’t do, they notice,” he remarked.

The Permanent Secretary warned against unauthorized travels or assignments, noting that such actions would attract serious sanctions. He further urged strict adherence to administrative procedures to sustain efficiency and order.

On staff welfare, Mr. Enitan commended departments that provide support during milestones and emergencies, describing such gestures as “the heartbeat of a healthy and productive public service.”

He also encouraged regular departmental meetings to strengthen communication and trust between management and staff, adding that clear work plans with defined timelines were essential for consistency and accountability.

Reiterating that accountability begins at the top, Mr. Enitan stressed that the behaviour of senior officers shapes the attitude of younger staff. He therefore charged all Directors to uphold the Ministry’s core values of integrity, teamwork, accountability, and service excellence.
